01 - Overview

A lyric video concept for musician Gracie Abrams' "Close To You," combining kinetic typography and 3D elements. Inspired by the song's atmospheric, cinematic quality, I envisioned grainy film projections and moody imagery, mixed with the playful, colorful karaoke-inspired visuals of the official lyric video.

02 - Concept and Process

When I first listened to the song, I kept picturing a film projector with hazy scenes in a grainy environment and imagining how they could transition into the simpler, brighter karaoke-style visuals of the official lyric video. The song stayed in my head, and I kept coming up with little scene ideas and keeping them in my notes over time because I knew I would want to return to the concept. Eventually, I decided to bring those ideas to life as a concept lyric video.

During the process, I experimented with 3D assets and more involved camera work in After Effects for the first time, alongside retexturing assets in Blender. I went through a few stages of camera and lighting adjustments and effects to build the concept. The examples above show parts of that, from the first animations of a scene to the final result.

03 - Consideration

I originally planned for the video to continue through at least the end of the chorus. However, the editing process took longer than I expected, especially as the remaining scenes involved more 3D work, so I completed this shorter version for now but I'm considering returning to the project to expand the concept further.
